After many long decades in the cod industry, in May 2019, José Maria Cachide sold Grupeixe to the Icelandic group, VSV, who early on realised that one of the biggest challenges would be to maintain the quality of the company’s cod and continue to deserve the confidence of clients accustomed to high standards.
Like all changes, unpredictability is a natural consequence. However, close collaboration was maintained with the previous shareholders, so that the transition would be smooth, creating all the conditions necessary to learn about the particularities of the production process at Grupeixe. Care was taken to meet the people who already worked at the company and to maintain the supply to clients, according to the expectations created throughout the years.
After this time, we have continued to learn every day with our employees and clients, as well as our colleagues and competitors.
Throughout the trials and tribulations of each day, learning is renewed and we remain focussed on making the best dried salted cod in Portugal, endeavouring to maintain the tradition of the true flavour of what is one of the healthiest and most versatile products in Portuguese cuisine.
